The profiles below are for the Stirlingshire Saddlery Saddle Fitters, as well as fitting saddles, Louise and Alene are also active directors of the company. Apart from fitting saddles, you will always see them hard at work running our Mobile Show Unit at events throughout the year. |
Louise Smith![]() Louise Smith – Riding from the age of 9, Louise has owned and worked with horses before taking up a career with Stirlingshire Saddlery. She has worked for the company since April 1988, starting as a shop assistant and then taking over as manager of the Edinburgh branch which used to be in Morrison Street. She holds the Society of Master Saddlers Qualified Saddle Fitting Certificate which she has had since 1996. Other qualifications include the BETA Retailing Certificate which covers everything from hat; boot and body protector fitting to general shop management, an Amtra Worming certificate for the sale of horse wormers and in her younger days held BHS stage 2 and 3 certificates. |
Alene Telfer![]() Alene Telfer – Has ridden from a similar age to Louise. She holds a BHS AI and had a small livery yard for a number of years; she also has Society of Master Saddlers Qualified Saddle Fitting certificate and Amtra Worming Certificate. Alene started working for Stirlingshire in 1989 after Louise, who was looking for a part time member of staff, asked if she would be interested. From there she started attending Horse Trials with the old Show Unit and got to know a lot of people on the circuit. A few years later, a chance meeting with a couple of Texans in the Edinburgh shop lead to her spending a couple of winters outside Houston, grooming for the owner of the Kenada Hunt. Louise was also invited out for a holiday and inevitably they started discussing saddles with the Texans – they were asked to take some next time they visited ……. The rest is history; they have now been selling saddles out there for 9 years! |
